Audio Marketing – The Latent Game Changer for Local Business Owners

Audio marketing is not a new concept. It has been around since radio started. The first form of audio marketing was when the company – Proctor & Gamble, would sponsor radio dramas because they wanted women in the demographic to buy their soap (that’s how the name “soap operas” came by the way) given that they would spend a lot of money.

Audio marketing is simply content that is created to get in front of a specific audience at a specific time, to get them to do something specific. Audio is very flexible because you can be in so many places and still get the content – that’s what makes it above and beyond. You don’t have to be at one point watching and reading written content, as is the case with video, but you can be anywhere: walking with a dog, waiting in a bank, traffic, etc.

Audio marketing comes in various forms: pod casting, casting recorded content, live content, even the traditional radio broadcasting, etc. We also have audio books.

A lot of companies are moving towards this form of marketing – Apples started with audio news. The smartphone is the delivery method. This is what makes it different because almost everyone has a smartphone, and these persons (smartphone owners) are within reach. For this reason, audio marketing is very powerful especially when combined with social media.

Audio marketing can be a game changer for local businesses. It makes them standout; get their content in front of people they want it to get to, and gives them an edge over their competition (if they aren’t using this form of marketing).
